Description: Shatrunjaya Jain Temple is situated in Palitana Town in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, This Jain Temple is the world's largest temple complex built on the Shatrunjaya Hills. The site is renowned as a place of eternal pilgrimage, with over 863 temples and 2700 protected monuments. Shatrunjaya is an awe-inspiring hill adorned with temples that are more than 900 years old and stands at an altitude of 7,288 feet. Accessible only through a climb of over 3,750 stone steps, the most notable structure in the complex is the temple of the presiding deity, the first Tirthankara Sri Aadeshvarnathji, with the idols of the Tirthankara facing the four directions. This shrine holds significant cultural and spiritual significance for the Jain community as the holiest mountain, sanctified by the visit of the first Tirthankara Adinath, who gave his first sermon on this hill, making it a divine place of worship for the Jains.
Evidence of an architectural marvel, the Palitana Jain Temples have towers, pillars and openings Gates are divided into nine parts. Built-in the 11th century, the construction of the Palitana Temples atop the Shatrunjaya Hill was initiated by the great Jain patron Kumarpal Solanki. The temple has been renovated about 13 times. The Department of Posts had issued the first PPC showing a panoramic view of the Jain Temples of Palitana on the Shatrunjaya Hills but due to technical reasons the image of the PPC was not visible, hence in July 1992 a second PPC was issued with the image of Siddhachakra Mahayantra it is an auspicious yantra or diagram which is the soul of Jain philosophy, it is the most sacred yantra in Jainism and its worship leads to liberation from the cycles of life and the soul enters the universal 'Chakra' called Nirvana.
