Description: Ishana Vihar Ashram is located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The Isha Foundation, founded in 1992 by Sadhguru, is a spiritual and educational organisation headquartered at the Isha Yoga Centre. Nestled at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains near Coimbatore, the centre serves as a vibrant space for yoga, meditation, and inner transformation. Sadhguru, who has been teaching yoga since 1982, established the foundation to offer tools for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. A major highlight of the centre is the iconic Adiyogi Shiva Statue, a 112-foot-tall bust representing Adiyogi, regarded as the originator of yoga. Made of steel, the statue symbolises the science of yoga and attracts visitors from around the world.
It took several years of planning and effort to complete and stands as a powerful symbol of spiritual aspiration. Adjacent to the statue is the sacred Yogeshwar Linga, a consecrated space designed for deep meditation. The linga bears the “Shambho” mantra inscribed in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Surrounding the area are intricate artistic depictions of elements associated with Adiyogi, such as the crescent moon, rudraksha beads, damaru, bow, axe, and bell. A striking black stone panel features the Saptarishis, believed to be the first disciples of Adiyogi. Encircling the statue is a massive Rudraksha mala, considered one of the largest in the world. During Maha Shivaratri, the center hosts grand celebrations, drawing thousands of devotees who participate in night-long spiritual practices and receive prasad, making it a deeply enriching experience.
