PO Name:Tiruvananthapuram Engg. College
Description:The College of Engineering Trivandrum, also known as CET, is among Kerala's oldest and most esteemed engineering colleges. Located in Kulathoor near Sreekaryam in Thiruvananthapuram, about 13 km from the Railway Station, it has been a leader in technical education in South India since its founding on July 3, 1939. The college was established under the guidance of Sri Chitra Thirunal Balarama Varma, the Maharaja of Travancore. Initially, it operated from the former office and bungalow of the Chief Engineer, later becoming the Postmaster General's office. Its first principal was Major T. H. Mathewman. At the start, CET offered civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering degrees through the University of Travancore.
After the Directorate of Technical Education was formed in the late 1950s, the college came directly under government control. In 1960, CET moved to its current 101-hectare campus at Kulathoor, renowned for its lush greenery, thoughtful architecture, and strong academic facilities. Notably, the main academic building is designed to resemble a spanner from above. The campus features departmental blocks, labs, workshops, hostels, a central library, computing resources, a planetarium, staff residences, a canteen, and a stadium.
The campus's layout and design were significantly influenced by Chandra Alexander, who helped develop its landscape and establish Kerala’s first Architectural Education Centre at CET. Today, CET offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various engineering disciplines and has been affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University since 2015, prior to which it was under the University of Kerala. A key milestone was achieved on February 15, 2023, when CET became the first government engineering college in Kerala to operate campus facilities into the night. While classes still run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students can access labs and libraries until 9 p.m., greatly enhancing opportunities for research, innovation, and collaborative learning. India Post Kerala Circle released a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation (PPC).
