Description: Muzhappilangad Beach is a Drive-in Beach in the Kannur district of Kerala on the Malabar coast. It stretches for a length of 4 km. As per an Article Published in 2016, it was listed among the 6 "Best Beaches for Driving" in the World. The longest drive-in beach in Asia, Muzhappilangad offers 3.4 km of driving through the waves for motorheads, with the beach sand curving to a wide area providing a good view of Kannur to the north. A barrier of black rocks on the beach keeps the waves calm, making the crescent-shaped beach even safer. These rocks are home to the Blue Mussel which is served as a delicious seafood dish at small food stalls on the beach.
The beach is visited by a lot of migratory birds every season. It also attracts bird watchers from far and wide. The Beach Festival held in April is one of the major tourist attractions of this enchanting beach. There are many adventure and fun activities organised here, including parasailing, paragliding, power boating, catamaran rides, etc. There is a private island called Dharmadam Island about 100-200 meters south of the beach. It is possible to walk to the island from the nearby Dharmadam beach during low tide. The beach has been famous for European tourists since the 1990s but still tourists from foreign and domestic are not aware of this destination. The beach is wide and the sand is firm enough to drive on easily.
