He is credited with standardising the Malayalam script and giving the language a stronger literary identity. Because of his immense contributions, he is often honoured as the architect of modern Malayalam. His birthplace, Thunchan Parambu, has become an important cultural and literary centre. It is visited by scholars, students, and admirers from across the region. In his memory, the prestigious Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, Kerala’s highest literary honour, is awarded to distinguished writers.
